Yotto returns to Odd One Out with four-track EP

Yotto’s highest-profile outing this year was a livestream. No new release attached. He set up at Bengtskär Lighthouse, a spot off Finland’s coast reachable only by boat, and held the set for close to two hours, guiding the room from daylight into dusk. Mostly unreleased IDs, with tracks from Joris Voorn and Sultan + Shepard folded in.

That changed 1 July, when ‘Songs You Might Remember from Some Parties’ arrived — four tracks, out now on Odd One Out, the label Yotto’s grown since founding it in 2019 into one of melodic house’s leading outlets. It isn’t his first release there. It follows ‘Rogue’, in a catalogue built on his trademark blend of melodic house and trance.

Opener ‘Just One Groove’ leans on a repeating piano figure and a loose-limbed guitar line, kept low and unshowy throughout. ‘Trudow’ swells and crashes through the middle, and ‘Flares’ loosens the mood after it, the kick easing in only once the track settles.
