Mark Knight releases his debut album ‘Untold Business

After more than a decade and a half in the business, Mark Knight has finally recorded and released his debut studio album. ‘Untold Business’ arrived 25 June via Toolroom, the label he has released on since 2008.
Knight built the record around collaboration, producing each song with a co-writer or featured vocalist. The album folds in three of his 2020 singles alongside newly recorded material. Lead single ‘Everything’s Gonna Be Alright’ features Beverley Knight and the 14-piece London Community Gospel Choir, and ranks among the biggest releases of his career to date. “I wanted to write a song of positivity and hope for the future as we emerge from this difficult time,” Knight said.
The title track has its own history. Its topline began as a Black Zeus demo written by Simon Lord, but never made that record. Knight teamed up with Gene Farris to re-vocal it and slow it down for ‘Untold Business’, calling the result his favourite on the album. “It just feels really original, and it’s not trying too hard to be one thing or another,” Knight said. “It just works.”
Working with Shingai on ‘Feel The Pressure’ pushed Knight just as hard. “Her performance on ‘Feel The Pressure’ completely embodied the spirit of the song, it was so good that it actually put me under a fair bit of pressure to get it right,” Knight said. “It turned out to be a pretty fitting song title in the end.”
