Purple Disco Machine takes Paradise on the road with a full band for the first time

Purple Disco Machine is taking ‘Paradise’ on tour with a full band, the first time he has performed with one in his career. The tour carries the album’s name, and the album itself is out now via Sony Music.

‘Paradise’ is his third studio album, and the Grammy winner teamed up with a long list of collaborators to build it. Nile Rodgers and Shenseea share ‘Honey Boy’, Metronomy opens the record on ‘W.T.P’, and Jake Shears, Chromeo and Duke Dumont appear across the rest of it.

The title track pairs him with Sophie and the Giants, who are credited on the release itself. Nu-disco is the foundation, with funk and electro sitting alongside. ‘Paradisco’ introduces Dabeull at track five, and ‘Die Maschine’ closes the album with Friedrich Liechtenstein.

‘All My Life’ is where you can hear the retro idea most plainly, a disco anthem that works off nostalgia and still lands somewhere contemporary. ‘Bad Company’ sits at the upbeat end. The record is one of his strongest yet, and the grooves are so infectious they should hold up wherever he plays them.

Work on the album started two and a half years ago, and he has spent much of the time since in the studio. One addition required some convincing, by his own account. “I wasn’t sure at the start thinking it might be too much, but after testing it with the crowd and everyone singing along, hands up in the air, I knew it was the right addition,” he said.
