Paul Kalkbrenner returns independent with ‘Schwer

Paul Kalkbrenner spent the past two years away from new singles, working through a deal with Sony Music. ‘Schwer’ changes that. It arrives as his first independent release, out via Paul Kalkbrenner Musik, and his first new track since 2021’s ‘Si Soy Fuego.’

The single arrives with a music video built on volucap technology, filmed with 42 cameras and 3D rendering software. Award-winning director Jovan Todorović, working with creative agency Mother Berlin and production company BWGTBLD, led the shoot, built around ‘Fremdkörper,’ the German word for foreign body. “Incredible. This volucap technology is really another level. I feel very privileged to be able to work with Jovan, Mother Berlin, BWGTBLD, and everyone else involved in this video. It couldn’t be more on point,” Kalkbrenner said.

Beyond singles, Kalkbrenner has built two decades of reputation through live performances and full-length albums. ‘Schwer’ offers a minimal, futuristic soundscape, built around a deep, booming bassline at 131 BPM.
