KOAN Sound follow Ascension with Liquid Levity

Shoshin, KOAN Sound’s label since 2010, has a new single from the duo’s upcoming album: “Liquid Levity,” released 11 July, following “Ascension” from mid-June. Led by Ancient Light, the album built around them, is what KOAN Sound call their most exploratory work yet — a fictional narrative written before any music, with cello and double bass at the core of the sound design, and piano parts recorded at Studio Bell, the Canadian music institution. The duo’s last album was 2018’s Polychrome, followed by the EPs Silk Wave and Chronos.

“We spent a lot of time thinking about the project and setting out our intentions before making any music, which ultimately made the whole process clearer and more meaningful,” KOAN Sound said.
