Brina Knauss opens her own label with We Know

Empath is new. Brina Knauss’s own label — a name behind the decks, on the radio dial and now in production — launched with her own record. ‘We Know’, three tracks, is the label’s first release. It’s also her first new music in nearly two years, and her first release anywhere since ‘Births’. The year leading into it wasn’t quiet: DJ Mag Italia named her its Best Newcomer and Breakthrough Artist, and she spent months on stages alongside Solomun, Carl Cox and Black Coffee, with festival stops at Tomorrowland and Audioriver.

Knauss came to this by way of classical training and a previous career in modeling — an unusual route on this beat. These days it’s a residency at Volt Club Milan and a regular slot on Radio m2o Italy, alongside the studio work. Catch either if the timing works. ‘We Know’ is out now on Empath: breathy vocal takes, chopped-up samples and synth lines that swell instead of snapping, running through the title track, ‘Arpeggio’ and ‘Day Of Glory’.
