Mat Zo returns to Anjunabeats with a new single featuring GQ

“There was a period in the mid-2000s when trance was starting to get really dark,” Mat Zo said of ‘The Next Chapter,’ out now on Anjunabeats. “I added the GQ sample (of him MCing at Westfest) because it reminded me of a drum and bass roller, but in trance form.”

The single, backed by an extended mix, follows a drum and bass-leaning compilation, ‘This is MAD TOO,’ a swing back toward the trance sound after a detour into a different genre entirely. GQ supplies the vocal that runs through both versions, layered over a bassline that grumbles under crackling percussion.

Mat Zo has been releasing music since 2008 and has called Anjunabeats home for the same stretch, going back to his previous outing on the label, No Words EP. Before that came Games, on a different label entirely. He is headed out on an eight-city run under the same name, kicking off in Los Angeles.
