Lubelski’s debut album lands on Percomaniacs, his own label

Lubelski has releases on DIRTYBIRD, Gruuv and Desert Hearts Records. His debut album isn’t on any of them. ‘The Universal Groove’ is out now via Percomaniacs — his own label, and the one he’s released through since 2018. It arrived 13 March.

The choice was deliberate, by Lubelski’s own account. He wanted to build something under his own name, and named producer Claude VonStroke, who did the same, as part of the reasoning. ‘The Universal Groove’ follows ‘What I Would Do To Teleport To You’, his last release on the label.

Lubelski has described coming to music through vinyl, and collecting records that later became fodder for his own productions.

The record’s title doubles as his own line about the genre: any four-on-the-floor track, in his telling, is a universal groove. Eurythmics were a defining influence as he aimed for something timeless. To him, the record is ultimately about love.
