Chase & Status share Essa Ta Quente

Chase & Status — Essa Ta Quente artwork

Skrillex has had his music remixed by Chase & Status before, among it the Grammy-winning ‘Rumble.’ They had not officially collaborated with him before. That changes with ‘Essa Ta Quente’ — released September 8 through Warner Records — and it gives Skrillex his first official feature with the drum & bass duo. Skrillex pulled Chase & Status onstage at Boomtown on August 16, during his closing headline set on the Hydro XL stage, and that was where fans first caught wind of the track.

Chase & Status are known for breakneck drum & bass. The track moves through breakbeat and funk carioca, carrying Brazilian rhythm and baile funk energy, delivered in Portuguese, and it puts two of bass music’s more restless acts on ground they have not usually worked. Skrillex layers in his own distorted bass and sharp sound design throughout. It comes cut from the album ‘Generic Everything’ and follows ‘BACKBONE.’ “We’ve been friends with Sonny for years,” Chase & Status said, “and finally, we are releasing a collaboration that’s long overdue.”
