When Stars Align gets its first EP from CamelPhat and Josh Gigante

CamelPhat have put out ‘Your Mind’ on When Stars Align, the imprint they started themselves, and it’s the first EP the label has released. That also makes it the second CamelPhat record to land there, produced by the two of them with the UK’s Josh Gigante, whose name sits on both tracks alongside their own.

The title track moves on a punchy bassline under a rhythm that catches almost immediately, and the looped vocal over the top comes round often enough to turn the whole thing genuinely hypnotic. ‘Lost in a Moment’ takes the darker route on the other side (rawer, more industrial), and it works a dancefloor every bit as hard. Between them the release leans back toward the tech-house CamelPhat came up on, groovier than a good deal of what melodic techno has been putting out lately.

It’s the genre the duo have spent recent years pushing at, after working through several others on the way, and it keeps climbing the charts and pulling in listeners. They are among the people responsible for that. You can stream either of them or buy the download, and both went up through the label today, 21 April.
