Alison Wonderland releases ‘Bad Things,’ her first solo since ‘Peace

Alison Wonderland has released ‘Bad Things,’ her first solo single since 2019’s ‘Peace’ and its acoustic version, arriving via EMI Recorded Music Australia ahead of an upcoming third studio album. Where ‘Peace’ offered a hushed confession, ‘Bad Things’ opens on close, wistful vocals over a lyric that turns from sobering toward cautiously hopeful, before the arrangement expands into a heavier saw-synth break in the mold of 2018’s Awake. In the year since ‘Peace,’ Wonderland filled the gap with collaborations instead of solo work: ‘Lost My Mind’ alongside Dillon Francis, ‘TIME’ with QUIX, and a featured vocal on producer Chet Porter’s ‘Bummed.’

Wonderland previewed ‘Bad Things’ live months before its release, playing virtual sets for Digital Mirage and Lollapalooza with Porter behind the drums; a clip of the pair performing it together circulated widely ahead of the studio version arriving this week. The rollout has also carried her likeness onto a billboard above Times Square, part of Amazon Music’s push behind the single and its ‘EDM Bangers’ playlist, and follows her recent appearance in the documentary Underplayed, which examines gender inequality in electronic music and premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.
