Alesso trades Remedy’s hooks for Progresso Volume 1

Alesso closed out 2018 with ‘Remedy,’ a vocal-driven single that topped the dance chart. Progresso Volume 1, the three-track mixtape he released on 8 March through 10:22pm — the label he’s called home since 2018 — moves the opposite way, leaning on the kind of driving main-stage synth work that shaped his earlier catalogue.
Alesso described the project himself. “This project, for me, is about going back to my roots and making house records,” he said, framing it as a way to tell “the past and the future of the genre” through the mixtape. He’s labelled the resulting sound “future progressive.”
It’s his second release on 10:22pm, following ‘Remedy’ on the same label — three tracks built for a live set instead of a chorus.
Alesso carries the mixtape into a packed run of dates: three May shows at Encore Beach Club in Las Vegas open it, a sold-out U.K. tour follows, and Tomorrowland and Disneyland Paris’ Electroland are both on the books beyond that.
