The Bloody Beetroots put Dr. Fresch and Ephwurd on ‘Heavy

‘Heavy’, the five-track EP from The Bloody Beetroots, is out 21 June on Fuzz O Rama, and two producers guest on it. Dr. Fresch, the Los Angeles producer who set up Prescription Records, has the closing track. Ephwurd is at four, on ‘Wildchild’. That closer is ‘Fkn Face’, which Rifo had already put out on Fuzz O Rama — the last thing he released on the label (it now sits at track five). So one of the five is already out there, and you can hear it well before the rest lands.
It lands in an anniversary year. Ten years since ‘Warp 1.9’, the Steve Aoki record that’s still the most-streamed thing Rifo has on Spotify. Diplo, Skrillex, Afrojack, Laidback Luke, Benny Benassi, David Guetta and Zedd have all dropped a version of it into a set. Carnage, Tisoki and Dirtyphonics went further and reworked the iconic single into festival versions of their own.
Against the glossier end of festival EDM the Beetroots have always run a little rougher and more gothic, and the guitar’s been a fixture of the project throughout. The title track holds to it. The kick lands heavy underneath distorted electro guitar, and the build runs out into electro bass with the guitar cutting back in between.
