REZZ’s ‘Certain Kind of Magic’ arrives via mau5trap

REZZ’s long-awaited sophomore album, ‘Certain Kind of Magic’, is out now via mau5trap, deadmau5’s label. She has recorded for the label since 2016, and the album follows a run of pre-release singles: ‘Witching Hour’, ‘H E X’ and ‘Flying Octopus’.
Synths styled to mimic guitar work run through several tracks — the most acoustic turn in her catalogue to date, and a departure from the murky, distortion-thick bass sound that has defined it. On other tracks the growling low end drops out entirely for airy chimes and unusually tender vocals, a texture new to her records. Her 2017 debut, ‘Mass Manipulation’, earned a Juno Award. ‘Certain Kind of Magic’ arrives as its follow-up.
Collaborators appear throughout the tracklist, among them Deathpact on ‘Life & Death’ and 1788-L elsewhere. Her first EP, ‘Insurrection’, was signed to Skrillex’s NEST HQ imprint.
REZZ tours behind the album this fall as the Certain Kind of Magic Tour.
