Knife Party return with ‘Lost Souls

Knife Party — Lost Souls artwork

House and dubstep collide across four tracks on ‘Lost Souls’, Knife Party’s first EP in four years, arriving July 19 through their own Earstorm imprint. The duo, Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen, have surpassed a billion combined streams since ‘Bonfire’, ‘Centipede’ and ‘Internet Friends’ established them as festival mainstays. ‘No Saint’ supplies the record’s big-room house energy, the title track carries its dubstep weight, and ‘Death & Desire’ folds in a rougher, more anthemic register.

Martin Garrix played ‘Lost Souls’ from the mainstage at EDC Las Vegas earlier this summer, months ahead of an EP that does not itself arrive until July 19. It follows Harpoon, a single the pair released on Earstorm about a year earlier, though their last release specifically under the Earstorm name was a Brillz remix of ‘Battle Sirens’. The label’s roster beyond Knife Party also carries Pendulum. Last November, on their own podcast Knifecast, Swire and McGrillen previewed ‘Ghost Train’ before returning to it again this year, well before the finished EP was confirmed.

Track three, ‘Death & Desire’, carries the EP’s only outside credit. The featured vocal comes from Harrison.
