Khiva’s Heavenly Bodies EP arrives

Heavenly Bodies leans on earth-shaking low end set against soft, layered vocals, tracks that push denser production and sharper lyricism than what came before them. The EP landed on Deep Dark & Dangerous on 1 September 2023.

Khiva, releasing music since 2017, has spent that whole run on the label. Heavenly Bodies arrives ten months after Phantom Forces, the release that came before it. The EP had been taking shape across the year before it landed, joining a Deep Dark & Dangerous catalogue that also carries Distinct Motive, JLeon and Wraz.

Ephemeral works a heavier register, dark synths laid over a bassline built to catch, with vocal samples pitched somewhere between chant and warning. Satellite (Bones & Ice), the closing track, moves through a rap-styled hook before settling into a slower, ballad-like chorus.

The opening track, Prophetic Silence, picks up a thread from an earlier one of hers, its vocals set atop a minimal, moody backdrop that eases the EP in.
