Josh Richards releases ‘Metal’ with a Stan Kolev remix

Josh Richards has released ‘Metal’, and Stan Kolev has remixed it. The original comes in on a commanding beat that works itself into a pulsing rhythm, and the pads spread out wide with a weightless melody riding over them. The atmosphere underneath stays brooding while the groove keeps a really hypnotic pull, and the metallic percussion arrives at deliberate points. Enigmatic, in a small way. Kolev’s remix pushes the synth work and the quieter melodic elements back up above a gritty bassline.

Richards, a Melbourne producer working between melodic techno and house, has been releasing through Flow Music since 2022, building the catalogue up one record at a time and picking up an audience as he goes. ‘Anthurium’ was his last for the label, and it earned him real acclaim. If you know that one, this lands about where you’d expect — the melodic, progressive line hasn’t moved. ‘Metal’ follows ‘100’.
