Don Diablo returns to future house on ‘Eyes Closed

Don Diablo — Eyes Closed artwork

Don Diablo’s ‘Eyes Closed’ is out now via his own Hexagon imprint.

A female vocal runs across the top, and the lyric puts her on a floor with her eyes shut, which is where the title comes from. Under her sits a rolling low end, with arpeggiated synth lines and two separate drops before the track is done. The style is future house, which Diablo has been at the front of, and the single is a euphoric return to it.

Hexagon has been his own label since 2016, and the new single follows ‘Problems’ there. JLV and John K were on that one. Another recent release is ‘Falling For You’, out under Camp Kubrick, his ‘80s-inspired project with Denzel Chain.

Last month Diablo made his crypto-art debut away from the release schedule, listing a piece called ‘Genesis’ on SuperRare that paired a digital artwork with a copy of an unreleased song. The sale closed at 110 ETH, or roughly $200,000, and the piece was built as a hybrid of digital and physical art.

Diablo seems to have built it for the moment crowds are allowed back, and it is pitched at the scale of Tomorrowland, Creamfields and SW4. Until any of that comes back you are hearing it at home.
