ZHU calls new single ‘BLACK MIDAS’ a return to his roots

ZHU has spent his career moving through genres, and ‘BLACK MIDAS’ marks a turn back to where he began. “In the beginning my music was intended for the dancefloor, and was the clubby part of my sound,” he said. “For me, BLACK MIDAS is a return to why I first made music.” A synth melody with the scale of an arena opens the single, and piano-led breakdowns nod to the songwriting that first got him noticed before giving way to a peak-time sound in the mold of Drumcode.

‘BLACK MIDAS’ is out now on BROKE / BLACKLIZT SOUND SYNDICATE, the label tied to his BLACKLIZT nightlife concept. It doubles as the title track for a new album under the same name, and it follows 2025’s GRACE. That momentum carried through last year, when he joined deadmau5 at Coachella’s Quazar stage. The single itself arrives after months of social media teases ahead of his set at Miami’s Ultra Music Festival.
