Richard Durand pieces together Reactivate

Richard Durand’s collaboration with HALIENE, the vocalist on ‘Give Your Heart a Home’, reached number one on Beatport before its inclusion on his new album, ‘Reactivate’, released 28 January through Black Hole Recordings.

The album follows a slower pace than Durand’s earlier work. After his debut ‘Always The Sun’, ‘Wide Awake’ arrived in 2012 and ‘Richard Durand Versus The World’ the year after. ‘The Air We Breathe’ then closed a six-year gap in 2018, and four years have passed since.

‘Reactivate’ is not his first release on Black Hole Recordings, where he has been since 2018 and where it follows ‘Malam’. Durand completed the album in early December, and its release window fell naturally into the new year, its title reflecting his hopes for 2022.

The record does not fundamentally redesign Durand’s sound to chase world events, and its second half leans further into instrumental territory, with ‘Tales of a Silhouette’ among the tracks carrying that shift. Stream it below.
