&ME reaches back for two-step and garage on ‘1995

Keinemusik, the label &ME has been releasing through for a decade, put ‘1995’ out today, a two-track release named after its opening cut. It arrives on the imprint following ‘The Rapture Pt.II’, and the title is a date that the record takes at its word.
Two-step and garage were emerging through the UK underground across that period, and ‘1995’ goes after the sound of them without a straight kick anywhere underneath it. The absence of that kick is the gap the track works inside. The weight comes from sub-bass layered very thick; ghostly ambient texture occupies the space above it.
&ME teamed up with Atelier (the only other name anywhere on the credits) for ‘Starting Again’, which takes the second position and closes the release.
Your laptop speaker will not do much with this one, so find something with a bit of low end behind it.
