Martin Garrix and U2 release ‘Fireflies’ after a Tomorrowland debut

Martin Garrix closed the first day of Tomorrowland’s opening weekend in Boom with a song nobody had heard yet. He brought out The Edge to play it. ‘Fireflies’ is out now via Darkroom Records.
It is the largest rock crossover Garrix has attempted. Bono sings the lead, The Edge’s guitar opens the record, and the melodic dance arrangement is built around both.
The two acts go back years. Garrix worked with U2 on ‘We Are the People’, the official song of UEFA Euro 2020, and later produced ‘Scars’ for the band’s ‘Easter Lily’ EP. ‘I’ve worked with Bono and Edge before, but working with the whole band I got to get a glimpse of their chemistry and why U2 are who they are,’ Garrix said.
Bono spent several of those years pushing Garrix to sing on his own records, coaching him through technique, breathing and lyrics. U2’s next album is expected before the end of the year, their first set of new material since 2017’s ‘Songs of Experience’.
