John Digweed marks 25 years of Bedrock with the Futuro compilation

John Digweed has spent 2023 marking anniversaries of his own making. He passed his 1000th broadcast of Transitions, his long-running radio show, and Bedrock Records, the label he founded in 1999, marked twenty-five years with a day party at XOYO in London. Futuro, a two-part compilation Digweed spent over a year curating, lands inside that same stretch. Synth-heavy and acid-leaning, it pulls together producers from across the label’s usual range into one continuous set. It opens and closes on the same theme, FuturaScent, credited both times to Digweed and Nick Muir, and runs 176 minutes and 43 seconds across twenty-five tracks.

Futuro lands on Bedrock Records following the label’s Quattro III, not Digweed’s first release on his own imprint. The compilation carries contributions from Carerra & Tavares, Davi, Lost Desert and Felix Raphael, David Morales, Rodriguez Jr., Spencer Brown and Mat Zo, and Sasha Carassi. House and techno anchor most of the set, with breaks cutting in and ambient textures at the edges. Through Transitions and Bedrock, Digweed has also backed producers including Henry Saiz, Steve Lawler and Guy J, and the label’s other output includes Vince Watson and Randall Jones. Earlier in the year, Digweed released an EP with Frankie Wah and Nick Muir, Tripchain / Scanalatura.
