Dream Tonic releases Essence EP on Producer Dojo

Dream Tonic released her ‘Essence’ EP today through ill.Gates’ Producer Dojo. Five tracks, and she sings on all of them as well as writing and producing them. She works in dream-pop and this one sits there too: hazy and downtempo, with warm pads and seriously heavy subs. There is trip-hop in it as well.
‘Stranded’ goes mystic and festival-sized, and the plain message underneath it rides on how carefully the track is constructed. Second in the sequence is ‘Loving’s Coming Down on Me’ (also her last release before this one). It moves differently to most of what she does. Dynamism and nature, and a small separation from the emotive sound she normally occupies.
Dream Tonic, a multi-instrumentalist with a classical piano training, built it as a self-contained fantasy, imagined over a long run of days and nights. The frames she sings inside are haunting ones, and the listening is lush and immersive. Every track carries a character of its own, and strung together they run as a single story.
She has been rising quickly, and ill.Gates signing her is still the first thing most people mention about her. You can start with the record instead.
